The constabulary invited us for afternoon tea at their office again today. They’re always so friendly! They’re fantastic gossips, and they’re always asking our advice for this and that.
Today, they told us all about dead bodies that keep finding their way to the chateau on top of the hill. The same chateau where we played tag with the vampire. Anyway, they wanted to know where the bodies were coming from and how they could keep them out.
I suggested they talk to the spiders. They hadn’t thought of that so I as happy to be of help.

They also wanted to know how to find a magical abacus someone had lost in the market. I didn’t have any ideas about that one. I mean, every abacus is magical! How else do they turn beads into numbers? Honestly, finding a non-magical abacus would be easier. The magic ones all look the same.
After helping the constables, we went down to the market to grab some things for the inn. We needed mead and meat and cabbage and carrots and flour and a cloth to put on the front table, the one with the wobbly foot that Lif always wiggles to make guests laugh. He’s such a hoot! Oh, I think we needed ale, too, but not wine. Or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, I should probably return the mugs I borrowed last week to…. Well, I’m not sure why I borrowed them now that I think about it. Seemed like a good idea at the time!
Anyway, I somehow got separated from the others and who should I come across? Olaf! I haven’t seen him in ages. Same old Olaf. Gruff as ever with the same gravely grumble when he’s thinking hard about something. He always drives such a hard bargain, too! Master negotiator!
Today, he fleeced me, taking four of my best, polished river stones for his beautiful Meerschaum pipe.
Man, he’s going to be SO pleased when he finds out!
